There was a little petrol station near the town of Bantry in West Cork that used to print fortunes on their receipts. I got one on September 18th, 2019 that read: You are a lover of words. One day you will write a book. It would take about a year before I sat down and outlined this book in my stone cottage by the sea, right before I moved away from Ireland. It came pouring out of me, like the sunsets over Glengarriff Bay that used to fill my evenings. My Grandmother would be proud of me. She used to say I’d write a book one day. I’ve been singing my whole life. Ever since I can remember. At the piano. In choir. In musicals on stage. With guitars beside lakes in the Pacific Northwest. And eventually in Seattle. The Seattle jazz scene was a place I called home for many years, surrounded by incredible musicians, where any night of the week you could go and hear the most amazing live music.
